As the next two Sundays are Xmas & New Years Day, Senses will be closed - therefore the next SUNDAY JOINT will be on Sunday, 8th January 2006 from 7.00pm onwards....
Looking forward to seeing you there.

We are hoping to pull something out of the hat for New Years Eve - some kind of party night in collaboration with some friends, but as yet nothing is confirmed. Stay tuned to this website for more news.

Phew - well finally, despite all the elements conspiring against us, THE SUNDAY JOINT managed to pull off it's first Xmas party. It was a near thing. First of all we rolled up at Senses, only to discover that there had been a bizarre toilet backing up accident during the night and all the toilets were ankle deep in shit and slurry. Big respect to Elm who soldiered on with mop & bucket, in order to get it all together, whilst we got on with the less messy jobs, like configuring the new video projector.

So we managed to turn in a good five hour set of soul, funk, reggae etc - complemented by screenings of Kurosawa's "Seven Samurai" and erm... the "Thunderbirds Christmas Special"... well we like a bit of diversity.

A packed house consumed all the Vodka Jellys - but it could have turned very ugly, when Mandy & Michelle's extended family won loads of the raffle prizes, whilst Mandy was picking the numbers... Many eyebrows were raised, but honestly it was just co-incidence.

Also maximum respect to all of our friends & visitors, who suffered the inconvenience of going out into the cold & using the bathrooms in the bar across the street - as ours were strictly 'off limits' for the night. I don't think a single person complained, which was much appreciated. Big ups to the remaining hardcore party people, who then joined us at Sifo, where Lloyd & myself teamed up with DJ Mervnic to keep the dancefloor jumping until 3.00am.
Finally a farewell to Jenn and Gemma, leaving BCN for San Fransisco & London respectively - thanks for your support and remember 'you can check out, but you can never leave'.

NEWSLETTER #3 (English)

Lo siento.... no tiempo por traduccion a hoy....
First of all, we have to issue a big apology, because time has run away with us this week and we have not had time to write & translate this newsletter, before sending it out - possibly we'll be able to send a Castellano version later today or tomorrow... in the meantime we hope you'll be able to get all the necessary information from the following in English:

This weekend promises to be a monster:

First of all on Sunday night we have THE SUNDAY JOINT at Senses, c/Carme 74, El Raval - where Roger C and Lloyd will be mixing up the funk, soul, jazz breaks, afrobeat, latin boogaloo, hip-hop & crazy Christmas tunes (you wait!) from 19:00 until midnight. At 21:30 it's free Vodka Jelly Time - so get there in time, for this regular weekly treat. We have some very special movies & projections lined up for your amusement as well as some secrets.... all will be revealed.

This will be our final SUNDAY JOINT of the year - as the next two Sundays fall on Xmas day & New Years Day, the bar will be closed.
Our first event of next year, will be on Sunday, 8th January 2006 - so ink that into your new diary.

Roger C has put together a mixed CDR especially for THE SUNDAY JOINT - 16 tracks / 50 minutes of deep funk, raw soul, jazz breaks, hip-hop & latin - some classic & some brand new. It's available for sale at the DJ desk for a paltry €5.00.

Leaving Senses when it closes at midnight - Lloyd & Roger C, will be dashing across Raval to join DJ Mervnic at the new club night - A FAMILY BUSINESS, where they'll all be dropping dancefloor bombs until 2.30am - on a very loud soundsystem. So they'd be more than happy for you to join them at Sifo, c/Espalter 4, El Raval - off of Sant Pau, very near the legendary Absinthe bar - Marsella. Entry is free, watch out for the wicked posters around Raval - a little bit of the old East-End, come to Barcelona... cor blimey!

We played there a couple of weeks ago until nearly 3.00am and it was great, good atmosphere, up-for-it crowd - what better way to set yourself up for Xmas week?

Phew! what else? oh yeah - are you loving the monkey?

NEWSLETTER #2 (English)

Sunday, 4th December 2005:
Coming up this weekend at Senses, the sixth edition of THE SUNDAY JOINT with DJ’s Roger C and Lloyd serving up a giant platter of funky beats both classic and contemporary. So if you haven’t come along and had your fill yet, then this is your perfect opportunity. A main course of serious funk & soul, flavoured with afrobeat & jazz breaks, spiced with hip-hop & a pinch of roots reggae. Cooking up a freestyle stew, that is enough to make any music fan’s mouth water. With animations, cult tv & kung-fu movies playing across the walls, super comfortable bean bags to lounge in & a friendly international crowd – THE SUNDAY JOINT is fast becoming the only place to spend your Sunday nights.

Come before 21:30 in time to get your free serving of vodka jellys, lovingly crafted with our own fair hands.

When Senses closes at midnight, Roger C & Lloyd will be heading to the other side of Raval, to play more tunes at a brand new club night called A FAMILY BUSINESS @ Sifo, c/Espalter 4… in the street opposite the legendary Absinthe bar. With a fat sound system and proper dance floor – this event will go on until late, and as the following day is a holiday, should be pretty crazy.

Visit our Blog at where you can see our photo galleries, listen to DJ mixes by Roger C & Lloyd (both roughly an hour long in MP3 format). We welcome any feedback, so please use the comments link - to let us know what you like / dislike about THE SUNDAY JOINT and how you think we can make it better. If you would like to contribute further, then just email

Last weekend one of our SUNDAY JOINT regulars (we’ll call her SK as she is very shy) & her housemates hosted an awesome costume party in the centre of BCN. It had a distinctly aquatic theme, with people dressed as fish, sharks, jellyfish, sailors, pirates, bathing beauties, lobsters, shrimps & god knows what else. If you were one of the lucky ones then check out the photo gallery at and see if you’re up there. THE SUNDAY JOINT’s Roger C manned the decks & provided a solid eight hours of funk, soul, reggae, latin, hip-hop, afrobeat & mad party tunes, too everybody’s amazement we managed to get all the way through ‘til 8:00am without a visit from the police. More parties like that are definitely needed.
