This week will have a distinct Carnival / Mardi Gras slant - with lots of Brazilian and New Orleans flavours added to the gumbo pot.

It's BIG WEDNESDAY time, come around again - the first Wednesday of each and every month - means that it's time for bigger beats, bigger breaks and bigger mayhem. Roger© and Lloyd will be dropping some seriously, deep down and dirty funk, floor-shaking soul-stompers, boogaloo bombs and some old school hip-hop anthems - in a manner that defies all concepts of logic and good taste... A nice loud sound system, room to dance, cult movies & projections plus free vodka jellies at midnight - what more could anybody ask... and the nights not over until you crawl out the door at 3:00am a steaming pool of sweating human protoplasm... awesome.

RAY BARRETTO (1929 - 2006)

We were very sad to hear that one of latin musics' greatest musicians and band leaders, RAY BARRETTO had passed away yesterday. He had been producing albums for more than forty years, twenty-two of them with the incomparable FANIA ALL-STARS, his conga playing gracing the likes of jazz musicians such as Gene Ammons, Lou Donaldson, Sonny Stitt, and guitarists Wes Montgomery and Kenny Burrell. Born in Brooklyn in 1929, of Puerto Rican ancestry, Ray was virtually responsible for inventing Latin Boogaloo, Salsa, Latin Funk & Jazz... We'll be dropping a whole bunch of his tunes on Sunday night in tribute - "Soul Drummers", "Acid", "Hard Hands", "Teacher of Love" and his incredible version of Stevie Wonders' "Pastime Paradise".
